Report: Caps re-sign Backstrom

05/16/2010 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Capitals have reportedly re- signed forward Nicklas Backstrom to a long-term deal and are expected to announce the transaction at a press conference on Monday.

The Caps previously announced that they have a "significant player-related announcement" to make on Monday, and The Washington Post reports that the team has given Backstrom a yearly salary above $6 million. The report does not specify the length of the contract.

Backstrom had been slated to become a restricted free agent this summer. He had a breakout campaign in 2009-10, recording 33 goals and 68 assists in 82 games for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Capitals.

In three seasons with Washington, Backstrom, who has never missed a game, has 69 goals and 189 assists.

For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
